Heading for Deeper waters

Report Date: January 10, 2004

This Fall was one of the best grouper and snapper bites we had in few years. Ok, cooler water is beginning to take it's toll. After several cold fronts in December and January the gulf temp is around 60 degrees inshore and 55 degrees on the beach. The best action is now offshore aroud fourty to fifty miles at dept of 125 ft. This is also the time of year that grouper beggin to spawn and they prefer to do that in deeper water. So I guess you could say offshore is where the best grouper action is until mid march when the water will begin to warm and the gag grouper spawning will be over for the most part. But Kingfish, cobia and Spanish mackerel will start heading this way, following the warmer water down south. So that pretty much leaves us with deep water grouper, snapper and amber jack fishing for a while.
